SED are at the forefront of forensic infrared imaging research.
We are currently executing a Department of Justice Grant designed to provide examiners with an enhanced capability to collect, quantitative analyze, store, and maintain a chain of custody of impression evidence. During the program, SED will demonstrate the ability to image and match a variety of impression evidence items including metallic tool marks, cartridge cases, and footwear impressions. This analysis will be done on a one for one match or one to many matches. We will build a database of a number of images from all three categories and have the ability to accurately match images. This research will evaluate the hypothesis that the use of 3D/IR+Visual will provide a quantum increase in the quality of images of impression evidence. If you are an examiner or supervisor and would like to receive periodic information on the status of the project, please send an email to forensics@sedllc.com and indicate your interest.
